Project Ecuador is a new international lifesaving venture for the Long Beach Lifeguard Association. The purpose is to train citizens of Playas Ecuador to become ocean lifeguards covering 2.5 miles of a popular, but dangerous beach break. The December 2006 initial training class of 23 included 16 young men and 7 men from Ecuador’s Black Beret Special Forces. The training was administered by John Pearce and Paul Dunning. Ecuador’s Red Cross officials administered the CPR certification. Over the past 2 months, 6 rescues have been documented including a triple rescue of a mother and her 2 children. Hats off to our South American friends!
