Farewell Chief Wawrzynski

Good Afternoon,

After spending considerable time evaluating my future, I have decided to retire, effective December 30, 2009.

Having worked in all capacities for the City of Long Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Division for 36 years, my decision to step away has been a difficult one at best. Beginning as a Non-career Lifeguard and culminating my career as the Marine Safety Chief I have had the opportunity to develop professional relationships with all of you. Most importantly, I have found it extremely gratifying to work with you collaboratively to ensure the safety of the citizens and visitors to our beaches and waterways.

Although this past year we were entrenched in monumental challenges with unprecedented budget deficits to the City; I am forever grateful for your support in working as a team towards realizing the nearly full restorations. Amidst these challenges, all of you have done your part in helping to maintain stability within the day-to-day operations.

It has been a privilege to work with each and every one of you. With my parting I know that you will continue to provide excellent public safety services that has been the tradition of the Long Beach Lifeguards for the past 103 years.

Thank you!

Paul Wawrzynski
