It's time for old and new alumni to send in your membership dues.

In 2009 your dues and membership played a very important part in keeping four permanent Lifeguards from being laid off and the Marine Stadium Boat, Rescue 3 from being shut down. Your dues helped pay for mailings and hand-out information passed on to the public at large. Alumni members sent in letters, emails and made phone calls to the City Council, Mayor and City Manager. When the City Council met for the final budget hearing to restore the funding to the LG's, it was commented that they had not received as many calls, emails or letters over a budget issue. When Shawn Parker, president of the LBLG Assoc stood and thanked the City Council, over thirty LG's and alumni stood up behind him and you could see on the faces of the City Council and others in the audience a look of amazement. It has been said that the 2010 budget will be even tougher, with deeper cuts expected.

LBLG are bare bone now. As with any public safety agencies, cuts in shifts, personnel and stations bring only loss of life and property due to slower response times. Your renewal is always important. With budget cuts for 2010 your renewal is vital. So join and get other past LG's you know to join. Remember, anyone is welcome to join.

I'd like to announce that the first and second renewals for 2010 were John Patty and Tim O'Donnell .

Click here and download your renewal form and mail it in. Once a LBLG always a LBLG, those days were fun and exciting.

Association President Shawn Parker

There have been a number of significant events since our last communication. First, we have experienced a number of losses to our Lifeguard family. Our prayers and thoughts go out to Keaton King and the passing of his wife of 58 years Colleen, Roger Patterson, whose mother Alice passed, Alan Powder, whose mother Edith passed and Kathy Coulter who lost her sister Terry. Our deepest sympathies go out to our Lifeguard brothers, sisters, family and friends during this difficult time.
