LBLG Alumni
The Long Beach Lifeguard Alumni are looking for you. That’s right any person who worked for the Long Beach Lifeguard’s, we are hoping you’ll become a member. We are also looking for anyone who knows of a former Long Beach Lifeguard and will pass on this information about becoming a alumnus member.
We have members that date from the 1940’s to 2006. Yet, there are hundreds of you out there and we would like to hear from you! We are also looking for photos of you working, competition, rescues, parties, anything pertaining to LBLG. We are trying to get enough photos in a data base so we can get them on disks and pick ones out to display on the alumni web site and hope to get a data base on the web sight so you can order copy’s of a photo. The Long Beach Lifeguard Assoc is rebuilding the LBLG web page and as it develops the alumni hope to update you monthly, with alumni board minutes, alumni products for sale, BBQ’s,past LBLG’s where they now and are doing, etc.
The Long Beach Lifeguard’s have a proud history and you can proudly say, you have been a part of it.
LBLG also had many first’s in the history of lifeguards. First professional paid lifeguards, first to have stations, first to have phones in the stations, first to have a power boat rescue boat, first to use radio’s in units and boats, first to have rescue boards, the first SoCal river rescue team. The list goes on and we look to our past lifeguards to keep our traditions and history alive to pass on to future LBLG’s.
The alumni know economic times are tough right now, yet we are appealing to the great memories of the days gone by as a LBLG and the money you earned to help you through school and life.
In the past four years your dues of $100.00 per year, has come to a total of $21,000. That comes to a average of fifty-two members a year, this year we have forty-five members to date. Your dues have help pay for the LG competition teams, the LG luau, your alumni stuff we send you, the Hall of Fame dinner, scholarships, LBLG products (hats, T-shirts, sweat shirts, etc) and in particular this year it has help cover the cost of the LBLG’s on going salary talks with the City of Long Beach. The alumni are striving to become more active in the community in things like beach clean up day, timers for swim meets, school water safety talks to name a few. Members of the City Council and department heads, their staff and city employees see the alumni taking part in these actives and garner only positive support for us and the Long Beach Lifeguard Dept.
As you can see, you and your dues play a great part in the LBLG. Members of the LBLG Assoc and it’s board members also know how important the alumni have become. Because without the alumni support and dues some aspect of the LBLG past and future would be lost.
So Join and come to the summer BBQ’s, Luau, Hall of fame dinner, summer LG competition and re-new friendships. Alumni membership is also open to anyone who wishes to support the LBLG’s as we have family members who join as a tribute to their father, son, daughter, grandfather who were a Long Beach Lifeguard.
